Crews were called around 1:40 p.m. to the intersection of Old Troy Pike and Needmore Road, which was shut down until about 5 p.m., Riverside police Maj. Adam Colon said.
Bell was headed south on Old Troy Pike, also known as state Route 202, in a 1979 Chevrolet Camaro when he ran a red light and was T-boned while crossing Needmore Road, Colon said. The Camaro was struck by a newer model Chevrolet Suburban.
Bell was pronounced dead at the scene. He was the only occupant in the car.
There were two people in the Suburban, but neither were injured, Colon said.
The crash remains under investigation.
Colon estimated there are between 25 and 30 crashes each year at the intersection of state Route 202 and Needmore Road, with at least one or two of them involving fatalities.
