A plane on its way to Chicago made an emergency diversion to Dayton International Airport Monday night due to smoke in the cockpit, according to airport officials.

Director of Aviation Gil Turner said that shortly before 8 p.m. he was notified that the SkyWest flight, with 51 passengers on board, was diverting to the airport.

Turner said that the plane landed safely and all the passengers had gotten off. There were no injuries reported, he said.

Airport spokeswoman Melissa Patsiavos added that fire and rescue teams responded immediately to the plane, a SkyWest CRJ-200 flying for United Express. She also said that everyone inside had deplaned was safe.

Turner said that the smoke dissipated after the plane landed and crews were unsure of the source at this time. He added that a mechanic would have to examine the plane.

In a statement, SkyWest said that Flight 4644, operating as United Express from Charleston, West Virginia to Chicago diverted to Dayton after a “mechanical indication.” The airline said that the flight landed safely and they are “working to help customers resume their travels as quickly as possible.”
