No OVI arrests, 11 citations issued during sobriety checkpoint in Washington Twp.

The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office has released the results of a sobriety checkpoint St. Patrick’s Day evening in Washington Twp.

The checkpoint was from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. on Ohio 725 near Paragon Road.

The sheriff’s and Montgomery County Combined Agency OVI Task Force operated the checkpoints.

In a release, the sheriff’s office said that 585 cars passed through the checkpoint in total.

In total, law enforcement issued four citations for registration violations, one citation for a driver’s license violation and one citation for having no driver’s license.

A total of 22 verbal warnings were issued, the sheriff’s office said, and two people were tested for possible OVI. No arrests were made.

Saturation patrols around the checkpoint stopped five vehicles and issued five traffic citations.

Checkpoint locations are based on statistical data.

Last year, Montgomery County sheriff’s deputies made 88 arrests for impaired driving at or near the checkpoint location. They made 30 arrests in the same area in 2023.

Montgomery County had 11,612 traffic crashes in 2024, including 61 fatal crashes that resulted in 66 deaths, according to the sheriff’s office.

Thirty-eight fatal crashes involved an impaired driver, resulting in 43 deaths.

The state of Ohio requires that law enforcement agencies announce the location of OVI checkpoints ahead of time.
