Some base gates and offices closed for national day of mourning today

Some Wright Patterson Air Force Base gates and offices will be closed Thursday for what is considered a national day of mourning for former President Jimmy Carter, who died Dec. 29 at the age of 100.

At the order of the Biden administration, all federal government executive departments and agencies are to be closed. Many national defense functions will continue to operate

Wright-Patterson’s gate 1A (the commissary gate) is closed, as are gates 15A, off Ohio 844, 1B and 19B and commercial gate 26A.

Gate 12A leading to AFMC headquarters remains open 24/7, as does 22B off I-675.

At the Wright Patterson Medical Center, there are emergency room and inpatient services. All other services are closed.

The Wright-Patterson Commissary is open from 8 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Also closed at Wright-Patterson are: The Family Child Care Office, New Horizons Child Development Center, the Prairies School-Age program, the Prairies Youth Center, the Wright Field North CDC and the Wright Field South CDC. Also closed is Wright Care CDC.

Also on Thursday, the U.S. Postal Service will not deliver mail, according to the National Postal Mail Handlers Union. There may be some package deliveries.

Nasdaq will close all of its equities and options trading, and the New York Stock Exchange is not expected to trade. The bond market closes early at 2 p.m. EST in observance of the day of mourning.

The president also ordered flags to be flown at half-staff for 30 days following Carter’s death. Carter’s official state funeral will be held on Jan. 9 at the Washington National Cathedral in Washington, D.C.
