ServeOhio, the state’s commission on service and volunteerism, has awarded a $1,000 grant to the Wright-Patt Credit Union’s Sunshine Community Fund to support its MLK Day of Service project in Dayton.

As part of the project, 25 volunteers will gather at The Hope Center, located at 1800 Harvard Blvd., on Monday to package health and wellness bags for distribution, according to a press release from the office of state Rep. Desiree Tims, who announced the grant on Saturday.

“MLK Day is a day on, not a day off,” said Tims, D-Dayton. “I am thrilled that the Sunshine Community Fund will have an opportunity to demonstrate and embody the very ideals of community service and compassion for our neighbors. I hope that everyone joins us in celebrating the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. on this day of service.”

ServeOhio is funding a total of 22 service projects across 17 cities in Ohio this year, the press release states, engaging the service of more than 1,600 volunteers.
