A trooper was struck Sunday morning after crews responded to a vehicle that crashed into a ditch and was found abandoned.

Trooper Dylan Dunlap was hit around 5:30 a.m. on Trebein Road near Grand Portage Trail in Beavercreek Twp., according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

Troopers were dispatched around 4 a.m. after the vehicle was found in the ditch on the backside of a guardrail. A wrecker was called to remove the vehicle from the ditch.

Dunlap, of the Xenia Post, was assisting with traffic control when he was struck by a Ford Explorer headed north, driven by 42-year-old Opal Cboins of Xenia, according to the OSHP.

Dunlap was taken to Kettering Health - Soin Medical Center in Beavercreek, where he was treated and released for minor injuries. The Ford driver was not hurt.

“Motorists are reminded to proceed with caution anytime they see flashing lights ahead,” the patrol stated.

The road was closed from approximately 5:30 to 9 a.m. while the scene was cleared for the crash that remains under investigation.
