Six grade school students were aboard the bus at the time of the crash, Ohio State Highway Patrol Lt. Dallas Root said. There were two people in the second vehicle.
“Upon request, one student was transported to Dayton Children’s Hospital,” said DPS Interim Superintendent David Lawrence. “All other students were taken to school without any issues and were evaluated by the school nurse as a precautionary measure. The safety of all students and staff is the district’s utmost priority. All parents/guardians of the students involved were notified, and all Edwin Joel Brown families were informed about the incident.”
No other injuries were reported, Root said.
“It just seems to be a minor traffic violation that resulted in a minor crash,” he added.
Investigators are taking statements from those involved in the crash and also will review video from the bus.
“Once we are done with that we should be able to conclude the investigation and determine who was at fault,” Root said.
Bus investigators from OSHP also will inspect the bus to make sure it’s operating correctly and that the safety features are working. Root said the bus inspection is a standard part of its investigative process.
He also reminded motorists that it’s early in the new school year and that students and bus drivers are getting used to their routes and bus stop locations.
“It’s still fairly early in the school season so make sure people adjust their schedules accordingly as they’re going to and from work and just give that extra little time in their travels,” Root said. “The buses will be making stops and as a result that can cause a little bit of delay in their routine.”
