Anyone with discolored water should flush the facet for one to 15 minutes. Air may also be present in the lines.
The city said repairs were finished around 3:30 a.m. Saturday morning, and that crews were opening valves to refill the water line northeast of the river, with the process estimated to take several hours.
The major water main break took place on Friday at East Staunton Road near the Water Treatment Plant.
A smaller main break occurred on Switzer Drive. Residents of Switzer Drive may have experienced a water shutoff while the line was repaired.
The city said in a Saturday afternoon update, they have begun to transition some water crews home for rest as many of them have been working for 30 hours.
Street Department staff were called in to help with water issues, and Water Treatment Plant staff were called in to work extra shifts Friday and Saturday, according to city officials.
“While the main is repaired, crews have been flushing the area north and east of the river for four hours to eliminate air in the lines. This work will continue through the rest of the evening,” the city said Saturday. “Once air has been eliminated and pressure has been restored, we can take water samples and move towards lifting the boil advisory.”
