The Preble County Sheriff’s Office opened an investigation Friday after a parent and student contacted Twin Valley’s school resource officer.
The student revealed they had been in a relationship with a teacher since September, according to the sheriff’s office. It reportedly changed to sexual relationship in October, while they were 17. The student is currently 18.
The relationship involved several locations, including the school building, according to the sheriff’s office.
Twin Valley Community Local Schools Superintendent Scott Cottingim said Stringer-Smith was immediately place on administrative leave after learning of the allegations on Friday.
He has been relieved of all district-related duties and is prohibited from district property.
“Please be assured that the district is, and always has been, committed to the safety and best interests of its students,” Cottingim said. “We take that responsibility very seriously. To that end, understand that the district’s investigation into this issue will be prompt and thorough and that the district will take whatever action is appropriate upon the conclusion of its investigation.”
Deputies arrested Stringer-Smith on Friday. During a search of his home deputies seized several items related to the investigation.
Stringer-Smith is being held in the Preble County Jail.
