16-year-old boy dies following double shooting in Dayton

A 16-year-old boy died following a double shooting near Westwood Elementary School on North Upland Avenue in Dayton Sunday afternoon.

The Montgomery County Coroner’s Office identified the victim as Kamareon D. O’Berry of Dayton. O’Berry died Sunday at Miami Valley Hospital.

A cause and manner of death have not been determined at this time.

A 17-year-old boy suffered non-life-threatening injuries and has been released from the hospital, according to Dayton police.

“The investigation into the double shooting that occurred Sunday afternoon is ongoing, and detectives continue to canvass the area for more information,” said Lt. Jason Hall. “Regrettably, one of the victims did die as a result of his injuries.”

Police are unable to provide additional information on the deceased at this time.

According to initial reports one boy was shot in the abdomen and the other was shot in the finger.

Hall urged anyone with information on the shooting to call the Dayton Police Department at 937-333-COPS (2677) or Miami Valley CrimeStoppers at 937-222-STOP (7867). Calls to CrimeStoppers are anonymous and callers may receive a reward if information leads to an arrest.
