A vacant house was intentionally set on fire Sunday morning in the North Riverdale neighborhood of Dayton.

Dayton crews responded to reports of a structure fire around 4 a.m. in the first block of Fernwood Avenue, east of North Main Street, according to Assistant Chief Brad French for the Dayton Fire Department.

French said crews were on scene within five minutes, where they found fire showing from the rear of a two-story vacant/boarded residential duplex. He added crews quickly entered the structure, controlled the fire and completed searches.

No injuries were reported at the scene.

The DFD Fire Investigations Unit determined the fire was intentionally set, according to French.

DFD crews operated at the scene for approximately three hours.

“Preliminary damage estimates for this incident are approximately $11,000,” he said.
