Wright-Patterson Air Force Base has doubled its workforce, reaching over 38,000 employees in 2024. Our region is home to more than 100,000 college students across 31 institutions, all benefiting from rigorous programs designed to equip them with the skills needed for the jobs of tomorrow. Dayton-based companies like Henny Penny, Midmark, Nidec, and Norwood Medical are experiencing global success, fueled by local talent and workforce. Honda’s $4.5 billion investment in Fayette County, Joby Aviation’s $500 million expansion at Dayton International Airport, and our thriving logistics sector—which now employs 40,000 people with an average salary of $70,000—contribute a $3.8 billion in annual economic impact.
Crisis breeds opportunity, and that’s exactly what occurred. The challenges of 2008 and 2009 forced us to not let the actions of others define us; but to redefine ourselves, to take control of our future, and to chart our own course for business, economic, and workforce recovery. Today, the Dayton region is firing on all cylinders, drawing the attention of the world. In 2025, we will showcase the best of the region to over 1,000 international guests at the NATO Parliamentary Assembly meeting and OnMain will break ground on a $100 million Digital Transformation Center at the former fairgrounds site. Diverse businesses, large corporations, and small businesses are making bold statements that Dayton is the future of their enterprises. Outdoor enthusiasts, art and culture lovers, and families are flocking to our region, attracted by the incredible quality of life we offer.
2025 will not be a year of hope but one of action, growth, and progress. The magic of Christmas is alive and well in the Dayton region, and we are all part of that story.
Merry Christmas to all and to all a good night.
Chris Kershner is the CEO and President of the Dayton Area Chamber of Commerce.
