UPDATE: Search for missing swimmer ongoing

Crews in Trotwood are searching for a person who went missing Saturday in the Madison Lakes Parks area.

The Montgomery County Regional Dispatch Center confirmed searches are ongoing for the missing swimmer as of 7:50 a.m. today.

Around 12:25 p.m. Saturday, multiple crews responded to reports of a missing person who was last seen in the water at the 500 block of Olive Road, according to dispatch.

“Yesterday afternoon, our crews were dispatched to Madison Lake in response to a report of a missing swimmer. Upon arrival, we immediately initiated a thorough search of the area,” Ralph Bowman, the Public Information Officer for the Trotwood Fire Department, said. “Our teams worked tirelessly, both on the water and along the shoreline, utilizing all available resources to locate the individual. Despite our extensive efforts, as night fell, we had to make the difficult decision to suspend the search due to the increasing darkness and safety concerns for our personnel.”

Bowman added they resumed the search this morning at sunrise.

“At this time we do not have any further information other than we are continuing the search,” he said. He added they will be continuing to search until they start losing daylight.

In a 911 call, the caller said they were all swimming and when they looked back, one of their friends wasn’t with them. “He’s not coming above water, and we can’t find him,” the caller said.

The caller added the group was near the cliff areas and that people were still trying to search for him in the water.

Additional details are not yet available.

This is a developing story, and we will update as we learn more.
