A woman was flown to the hospital after a head-on crash between a dump truck and a car Tuesday afternoon in Darke County.

Emergency crews were dispatched to the intersection of U.S. 127 and Hunter Road in Greenville Twp. at around 4:49 p.m., according to the Darke County Sheriff’s Office in a release.

Early investigation found that Layne Washington, 26, of Greenville, was driving a 2023 Kenworth dump truck northbound on U.S. 127 when he went to make a left turn onto Hunter Road. According to the sheriff’s office, when he did so he failed to yield to a Ford Focus, driven by Monaka Ridgway, 39, of Greenville, traveling southbound on U.S. 127. The two vehicles crashed head-on, coming to a rest in the ditch.

Washington and Ridgway were both treated and released at the scene, but a front seat passenger from the Ford, Arreis Sprowl, 19, of Greenville, had to be cut from the vehicle by emergency crews before she was flown to Miami Valley Hospital by CareFlight.

The sheriff’s office said that she is listed in good condition at the hospital.

In addition to CareFlight, deputies were joined on scene by Greenville Twp. Rescue, Greenville Twp. Fire and the Greenville Fire Department.
