A woman tried to shoplift more than $250 worth of merchandise from Meijer on Tuesday while dozens of Huber Heights police officers were in the store for a holiday “Shop with a Cop” event.

The woman was approached by store security and tried to run but several off-duty officers were able to catch up to her and take her into custody, according to Huber Heights police. The woman was taken to the Montgomery County Jail on a preliminary misdemeanor theft charge.

There were between 30 and 40 off-duty and retired officers from the Huber Heights Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 161 helping 130 children in need pick out gifts for the holidays, the department said.

Big thank you to Huber Heights FOP 161 for apprehending a shoplifter during shop with a cop event they put on. Not exactly the grinch but we’ll take it! ***edit…yes this did happen, not staged at all***
