“Base employees are encouraged to communicate with their supervisors and work center leadership for telework postures,” the wing said on X Friday.
On social media, people who travel on Interstate 675 have been complaining about the amount of traffic on roadways surrounding the base.
Wright-Patterson is the largest single-site concentration of employment in Ohio. In a recent fact sheet, the wing put the base’s annual payroll at $3.3 billion, with a total economic impact of $6.5 billion.
The 88th Air Base Wing is one the largest air base wings in the Air Force with more than 5,000 Air Force military, civilian, and contractor employees.
New social media policy
On Friday, the 88th Air Base Wing said it is pausing social media posting, citing a new Department of Defense policy.
The wing overseeing Wright-Patterson Air Force Base offered dual statements on Facebook and X shortly after 11:30 a.m. Friday.
“In accordance with the DoD directive, all WPAFB official social media activity is paused. For real-time information, visit www.wpafb.af.mil. Comments are turned off due to not monitoring," the wing said on both accounts.
The Department of Defense imposed a “global pause” on all official social media accounts Thursday, except for posts related to U.S. military operations at the U.S.-Mexico border, the Stars and Stripes web site reported.

“The moratorium is meant to ensure that DOD social media aligns with President Donald Trump’s ‘priorities on readiness, lethality, and warfighting,’” Stars and Stripes said a ”senior defense official who declined to be identified" told it.
Fox News reported that the social media pause is expected to last “a matter of days,” while guidance is shared with military and civilian public affairs officers responsible for social media use.
The 88th Air Base Wing has some 12,700 followers on X and 88,000 followers on Facebook. The wing, which is responsible for security and infrastructure on the large Air Force base, often uses the social media accounts to update followers on events, expectations, weather conditions, changes in traffic and gate operations and other general information.
In recent days, the base has used social media to ask employees to exercise “workplace flexibilities such as staggered reporting times” to minimize traffic impacts when driving on base.
A spokesman for the 88th on Friday referred questions about the social media changes to the DOD.
The spokesman also said that, as this has been a short work week (Monday was a federal holiday), the base doesn’t yet have sufficient data to discuss any increase or change in how many motorists are coming on base after the end of remote work.
Federal agencies were expected to shift to in-person work arrangements quickly, by 5 p.m. Friday, the new executive order stated.
