Yellow Springs native Cindy Blackman Santana crushes on drums in new ‘Monday Night Football’ anthem video

ESPN’s Monday Night Football premiered a new musical anthem featuring Chris Stapleton, Snoop Dogg and Yellow Springs native Cindy Blackman Santana on drums.

The trio perform a reimagined version of Phil Collins’ “In the Air Tonight.”

An ESPN press release says Santana is “a powerhouse on the drums, rocking the song’s iconic drum break and brings her own style and accents to this classic song.”

Santana, who was born and grew up in Yellow Springs, came from a musical family. Her mother and grandmother were both classical musicians.

Santana learned drums at an early age and has been creating music with a variety of artists since the 1980s.

She was a long-time drummer in Lenny Kravitz’s band. Some of the artists she has worked with include Joss Stone, Joe Henderson, Pharoah Sanders, Sonny Simmons, Ron Carter, Sam Rivers, Cassandra Wilson, Angela Bofill, Buckethead, Bill Laswell.

In recent years she has toured with her husband, legendary guitarist Carlos Santana.
