6th grader to be charged, Wapak school threat

Thursday morning at 8:30 the Wapakoneta Police Dept. received a report of a bomb threat at the Wapakoneta
Middle School. The building was evacuated.

The Allen County Regional Bomb Squad was contacted and a search of the building was conducted with nothing found. Explosive sniffing K-9's were used to help clear the building.

"The threat was written on a desk that sits in a hallway outside of a classroom," said Wapak Police Chief Russel Hunlock.

"Through our officer's investigation, a student of interest was obtained and an interview of the
student led to a confession," said Hunlock.

The student, an 11-year-old 6th grade female, will be facing criminal charges. The investigation
will be presented to the Auglaize County Prosecutor.

The student has been banned from school property until disciplinary proceedings are concluded.

Assisting the Wapakoneta Police Department with the scene were the Auglaize County Sheriff's
Office, the Allen County Regional Bomb Squad, the Wapakoneta Fire Department and the Ohio Highway
Patrol.
