Whether you want an Android or iPhone, you should be able to get a good deal on a phone as both low-cost and higher-end models are going to be on sale.

"Definitely older model phones as the new ones come out," Charis says. When it comes to getting a good price on a phone, timing is everything. To get the best phone deals, make sure you comparison shop.

4. Grills

Like a lot of things in 2020, football season is a little different than past years, but it’s still the time of year that retailers promote everything you need for a cookout. That means grills and similar appliances will be on sale for cheap.

5. Outdoor Furniture

Expect some good bargains on patio furniture and similar outdoor furnishings as stores look to exhaust their supplies before it gets too chilly to spend time outdoors.

6. Clothing

For much of the year, clothing has been cheaper than usual due to low demand caused by the pandemic. “Clothing and shoes are on sale in general,” Charis says, “but now, the summer styles are being cleared out.”

7. Smoke Detectors

October is Fire Safety Month, which means you should be on the lookout for huge discounts on safety-related items like smoke and carbon monoxide detectors. Don’t forget to check the DIY aisle.

“This will be the most unusual October on record when it comes to retail due to all the major players offering early holiday sales,” Charis says.

Just as money expert Clark Howard predicted, the holidays are starting earlier this year.

"October is the month to do your holiday shopping! Especially with shipping costs rising closer to Christmas," Charis says.
