Crossfield was the first person to exceed Mach 2, in 1953, and to surpass Mach 3, in 1960, and survive. He was inducted into the National Aviation Hall of Fame in 1983.

Hoover, who died Oct. 25, was a world-renowned acrobatic pilot who also served as a fighter pilot during World War II. Hoover was inducted into the National Hall of Fame in 1988.

Sally Ride
Ride became the first woman in space in June 1983 abroad STS-7 Challenger. She was inducted into the National Aviation Hall of Fame in 2007.

Tucker is a world-renowned air show performer and opened the Sean D. Tucker School of Aerobatic Flight. The flight school is a world premier precision flight training school focused on safety. Tucker was inducted into the National Aviation Hall of Fame in 2008.

James A. Lovell
