West Carrollton is looking to relax rules on food truck operators, who say the more than $1,100 cost for a mobile food vendor license is driving away business.

The city is reviewing the fee structure and requirements after vendors questioned officials about the issue, contending the guidelines “are prohibitive and designed to discourage mobile food vendors from locating in the city,” records show.

The fees “are somewhat high,” said West Carrollton Planning Director Greg Gaines.

The city initially established strict guidelines to ensure quality businesses, he said. However, city council has rethought the issue as the popularity of food trucks have grown. Gaines said.

Gaines the issue for reviewed by planning commission in a process that is expected to take a few months.
