Bad owners: Billboards tell Dayton dog owners to clean up after pets

The city of Dayton is using billboards to urge citizens to be good neighbors and pick up after their dogs and to not rake leaves into storm drains.

One asks citizens to use salt wisely because it ends up in local rivers. Another reminds citizens that “only rain” should go down the drain.

Many parks in Dayton have plastic bag dispensers for dog owners to pick up after their pets, but some owners fail to use them.

The city has used billboards and other media as part of educational campaigns to ask citizens to avoid behaviors that can frustrate neighbors or lead to other problems.

The city’s “Stop the grease monster” and “Wipes clog pipes” campaigns inform citizens about how sending grease and cleaning wipes into the sewer system can lead to blockages, which can be costly or difficult to fix.
