Bob Evans Farms has announced it will shut down 20 restaurants over the next year, most of them within the next month.

All Ohio Bob Evans Farms restaurants made the cut in the company’s closing of stores to help cut costs.

The New Albany-based restaurant and prepared foods company closed 17 stores this week. The company said last month that it would close 20 stores by the end of the year as part of a larger effort to cut costs and improve profitability.

Locations of stores that closed:

Elkhart, Ind., Huntington Ind., Ft. Wayne, Ind., Michigan City, Ind., Carlisle, Pa., Mechanicsburg, Pa., Lancaster, Pa. Kansas City, Mo., St. Joseph, Mo., Overland Park, Kan., Merriam, Kan., Plainfield, Ill., Peoria, Ill., Kalamazoo, Mich., Woodbridge, Va., Millville, N.J., Ranson, WVa.

Company officials expect the closings to improve margins even though the stores represent about $20 million in annual sales. The company owns 16 of the 20 locations and expects to sell the properties for more than $15 million.
