Kettering’s estimated 54,800 residents include nearly as many people 65 or older (18.5%) as it does under 18 (21.1%), according to 2019 figures from the U.S. Census.
Projected to open late next summer, KHN said the structural steel framed building on a 1.45-acre lot at 1745 E. Stroop will represent a $5.6 million investment by the Dayton-area health care provider. City records indicate a $3 million project cost.
Primary care/internal medicine, behavioral health and educational classes will be the focus of eight physicians and advanced practice providers, one behavioral health specialist and 20-25 support team members, according to KHN.
The site will include X-ray and lab areas with more than 20 exam rooms, the company and city records state.
The new facility will be a welcome addition, Kettering City Manager Mark Schwieterman said.
“Any additional health (services) through Kettering Health Network are beneficial to our community and our residents,” he said.
“And in this case we get the added benefit of (development) of a vacant parcel of land. So we have, certainly, a revitalization project with a good end user,” Schwieterman added.
City of Kettering records show the facility will have a capacity of 232 in 14,316 square feet of space. But KHN said the one-story structure’s square footage will be 13,800.
The land is among several parcels that the Dayton-area health network acquired in 2017, according to the Montgomery County Auditor’s Office website.
City records show an application for a building permit in February 2020 and zoning compliance documents were approved earlier this month. Ground was broken Aug. 10, according to KHN.
The Kettering-based health care business has hospitals and dozens of satellite medical facilities in Southwest Ohio, according to its website.
