A Dayton Mall retailer that has operated for nearly nine years will shut its doors permanently on Friday, April 24, the store’s manager said this morning.

Orvis, which sells outdoor clothing and fishing and hunting gear, requested several months ago that the Dayton Mall search for a replacement tenant so it could close the store, Dayton Mall General Manager Dave Duebber said this morning. Duebber declined to name the prospective tenant that will fill the Orvis space, saying a lease has not yet been signed.

The closing will affect seven employees, store manager Doug Baker said this morning. Full-time employees with experience will receive a severance, Baker said.

The Dayton Mall location was the only Dayton-area store for Sunderland, Vermont-based Orvis, which operates stores in the Cincinnati and Columbus markets.

Baker said today retail sales are very limited, if available at all, today and Friday, as he and other store employees pack up items for shipping to other Orvis stores.

A spokesperson for Orvis confirmed the closing and invited customers to shop the retailer’s Kenwood and Worthington locations.
