OSP investigating Lebanon inmate who may have killed a second prisoner

The inmate who pleaded guilty Monday to murder in the slaying of his cellmate at the Lebanon Correctional Institution has allegedly killed another inmate, according to reports.

Casey Pigge, 29, was scheduled for transfer Friday to the Southern Ohio Correctional Facility outside Lucasville. According to prison records, he is there now.

Pigge was already serving a 30 years to life for murder in Ross County in 2009 when in February 2016 he beat to death a Springfield man with whom he was sharing cell in the segregation unit at Lebanon.

Friday, an official at the Southern Ohio Correctional Facility said Pigge is alleged to have killed another inmate during a transfer to the prison, but referred questions to the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction and Ohio Highway Patrol.

JoEllen Smith, communications director for the Ohio Department Rehabilitation and Correction, said the highway patrol was investigating the death of an inmate. She referred further questions to the highway patrol.

Patrol Sgt. Tiffiany Coriell confirmed the investigation into the death of an inmate, but was unable to provide further details .

Monday, Pigge pleaded guilty to murder in the killing of Luther Wade, 26, of Springfield with a block from the wall of their cell. He agreed to a sentence of life in prison without parole, the maximum he faced.

Pigge claimed he killed Wade on Feb. 23 out of fear.

Before accepting the plea, Judge Donald Oda III asked Pigge – who was in a straitjacket – why he would agree to the maximum sentence.

“I just want to get it over with,” Pigge said during a hearing on Monday in Warren County Common Pleas Court.

Pigge is scheduled for sentencing Feb. 14.
