“Someone just got shot right outside my bedroom window,” the caller said from a residence across the street. “I could hear it, and I could hear the guy scream, and then tires squealed off.
“There was a lot of gunshots,” the 911 caller added. “Several.”
Trotwood police say at least two masked armed men robbed the restaurant at 203 N. Broadway.
Police said the owner, who was not armed, confronted the men and was shot before the suspects drove away. Police say the man is expected to recover. The owner’s wife, who also works at the restaurant, was unharmed.
The restaurant was back open Wednesday, and police said they planned to interview patrons and restaurant employees. Cafe workers declined interview requests on Wednesday.
“I’m told it’s not life threatening, but that could always change in a flash,” Trotwood police Chief Erik Wilson said Tuesday about the condition of the man who was taken to Miami Valley Hospital.
Trotwood police said no new information was to be released Wednesday.
A witness, who identified himself as a Broadway Cafe delivery driver, said he entered the business through a back door and the owner told him to run. The person who told him to run is believed to be the wife of the owner.
The cafe has been the target of robbers in the past, according to police. Surveillance video was released when the cafe was robbed earlier this year.
