Butcher Shop Under Investigation In Fort Recovery

Mercer County Sheriff Jeff Grey reported that his agency, in cooperation with the Fort Recovery Police Department, is conducting an investigation into the business practices of Vonderhaar’s Quality Meats, located at 522 East Boundary Street, Fort Recovery.

The Sheriff’s Office was alerted by business owner John Bihn on Friday, February 13, 2009, that he had received numerous complaints of his customers not receiving all of the meat from animals that had been slaughtered at the slaughter house. Bihn is the owner of the business, but the business is operated by others, whose names are being withheld at this time.

Sheriff’s deputies met with Bihn then interviewed several witnesses/victims. On Monday, February 16, 2009, at 7:03 AM, deputies executed a search warrant on the business and seized boxes of business records and photographed beef that was hanging and tagged. The sheriff’s office is being assisted by the Fort Recovery Police Department and has been in contact with State and Federal Administrative agencies for advice and assistance in the investigation.

In order to locate all those individuals who feel they may be a victim, sheriff’s deputies and Fort Recovery police officers will be at the village hall in Fort Recovery on Tuesday, March 3 from 7P-8P.
