“CareSource is proud to receive this recognition, because we place a high level of importance on the health care coverage we provide our members. This is evidence that serving members with our mission-based model of care is making a lasting difference in their lives,” said Steve Ringel, president of CareSource’s Ohio market.
Overall, CareSource received 13 out of 15 stars for its performance as a managed care provider, ranking ahead of four other Medicaid managed care providers in the state.
Molina Healthcare received 12 stars, while Paramount Advantage and United Healthcare each got 10 stars. Buckeye Health Plan got the lowest score, scoring eight out of 15 stars.
Combined, the managed care plans serve about 2.4 million poor and disabled Medicaid beneficiaries. The report card encourages competition and transparency among those plans, according to state Medicaid officials and consumer advocates.
“This report card is another example of the public sector leveraging tools commonly used by the private sector, in order to enhanced value and provide consumers with important information to guide their health care decisions,” Miranda Motter, president and CEO of the Ohio Association of Health Plans, said in a statement.
The report card shows how Ohio Medicaid’s managed care plans compare to one another. But there are many other factors to consider when choosing a Medicaid managed care plan, such as which plans have doctors with office hours and locations that are convenient; which plans offer extra services, such as health and wellness programs; and which plans provide extra help for pregnant women and others, according to Ohio Medicaid’s website.
