“It is a full-fledged television production,” Ohio Lottery spokeswoman Danielle Frizzi-Babb said. “It is really is a big deal.”
The Ohio Lottery projects the event will inject $34,000 into the local economy. High school students and off-duty police officers will be among those hired to help with the show and crowd.
As many as 2,000 people can attend the Cash Explosion Trotwood road show taping, which will be free and open to the public on a first-come, first-seated basis beginning at 4:15 p.m.
The weekly show featuring nine contestants is normally taped at the Mills James Productions in Columbus. The show has traveled to Marietta, Niles, Barnesville and Lima during the past three years.
It airs locally at 7:30 p.m. Saturdays on WKEF-TV ABC 22.
The contestants who will compete on the Trotwood show have already been selected, but Frizzi-Babb said there is still an opportunity for area residents to win.
The Ohio Lottery will give away $10,000 in cash and merchandise prizes during games starting at 1 p.m.
Gifts will be given to those who donate non-perishable food items for a drive that will benefit local residents assisted by The Food Bank.
Local faces often make it to the show. Contestants are picked as part of a scratch off game.
Englewood resident Dennis Schweizer competed on the show Saturday and on March 29. He won $340,000 during his first appearance. Floyd Weddell of Dayton and Carolyn Oaks of Tipp City also competed on Saturday’s show.
Terri Waddell of Maineville holds the record for the largest amount won in the show’s 27-year history: $520,000.
