The resolution brings the city in line with neighboring Kettering, who approved a similar year-long ban in April.
City Attorney Scott Liberman said the extension would allow the city more time to decide on what actions, if any, they would take once the state finalizes regulations for cultivation, dispensaries and processors. Ohio is scheduled to reveal final rules in September.
“This will give council time to consider what they want to do once the state puts out its rules,” Liberman said.
The one-year ban can be lifeted at any time prior to its expiration, Liberman said.
What are the rules?
The Ohio Board of Pharmacy, one of three state agencies overseeing the medical marijuana program, posted proposed rules in March that call for a ban on vaporizing medical marijuana by patients under 18, a limit on oil flavors, and restrictions on marketing toward children.
