Chinese mother tries to mail baby to an orphanage

The baby is in stable condition at a hospital in the Chinese city of Fuzhou, CNN reported. The 24-year-old mother was in custody for suspected child abandonment.

According to police, the mother placed the baby girl inside several black plastic bags on Wednesday and then refused to let a courier inspect the contents of her package when he arrived to pick it up.

The courier became suspicious when he noticed movement and noises from inside the package, CNN reported. He was shocked when he opened the package and found the infant, police said.
