Chocking Hazard Prompts Toy Dart Gun Recall

The government is announcing the recall of more than a million toy dart gun sets after two boys choked to death on the darts.

The victims died after they chewed on the one-inch, soft plastic darts, which slipped into their throats.

The small suction cup part of the dart cut off their breathing.

Inez Tenebaum with the Consumer Product Safety Commission said, “You cannot get it out of the child. It’s a perfect fit. It’s like a stopper and it just lodges in there, and blocks off the air and the child suffocates.”

According to the CPSC, airway obstruction from small parts is one of the leading causes of toy-related deaths in children under the age of 15. The dart gun sets were sold nationwide at Family Dollar stores.

Parents are urged to take the dart guns away and throw them out. You can also return the gun for a full refund.
