“We had almost 25 years downtown — it was a wonderful ride,” Byers said.
The restaurant had moved from 33 S. Jefferson St. to 130 W. Second St. a year ago, “but there aren’t enough people on this side of town,” Byers said. And employees of the office buildings and federal and county government buildings drove home after work rather than hanging around for beer and dinner at a bar next to their workplace, he said.
The closing, Byers said, will have no effect on the other two Cold Beer & Cheeseburgers that Byers operates, off North Fairfield Road near the Mall at Fairfield Commons in Beavercreek, and in the Breitenstrater Square shopping center on Patterson Road in Dayton. Byers also owns Carmel’s Mexican restaurant on Shroyer Road in Dayton and the Somewhere Lounge, also in the Breitenstrater Square center.
“I am proud to say this is the first establishment I’ve had to close in my 25 years of self-employment,” Byers said.
