10 cool places to spend the night on an Ohio weekend getaway

Sometimes you just need a weekend getaway, maybe for an anniversary, a quick family vacation or just an excuse to get away for a few nights.

Here are 10 unique places you can stay that are two hours or less away from Dayton.

1. Ravenswood Castle

Why stay at a hotel like a peasant when you deserve royal treatment by staying in a castle?

Located about two hours away near Hocking Hills State Park, this bed and breakfast is a great place to stay if you’re looking for a unique getaway.

Guests can choose to stay either in one of seven castle rooms, medieval styled cottages or tucked away woodsmen’s cabins that start at $139 a night.

Ravenswood Castle hosts two gaming conventions, murder mysteries and will also host corporate events.

2.  Golden Lamb Inn and Restaurant

A Lebanon bed and breakfast that was established in 1803 by Jonas Seaman, this inn is famous for the prominent figures it has hosted.

The 18-room inn boasts 12 presidents that have rested there as far back as John Quincy Adams to as recent as George W. Bush. Each room is named for a famous person that has stayed the night.

The Golden Lamb has its own restaurant called the Black Horse Tavern that hosts live music Thursday through Saturday.

Open year-round, the business is one of the oldest running establishments in the nation, and one can expect to get rooms starting at $119 a night depending on what night you’re staying and how far in advance you book.

3. Unity Woods Cabins

If you're looking for an offline escape, head to the Amish community of Unity Woods in West Union.

The community offers a choice between three cottages of varying sizes and the sights and sounds of nature.

Special attractions include bird watching, five miles of trails, a stocked pond, morel mushrooms, the nearby Amish community and a vineyard.

Pine and Pond cottages cost $90 per night, and the Cedar cottage is $110 per night.

3. Great Wolf Lodge

Head to Great Wolf Lodge in Mason and spend the weekend unwinding at heated pools, water slides, gaming at the arcade or going on a quest at the resort.

Guests can choose to stay in standard suites starting at $269, in a themed room starting at $299 or a premium suite starting at $359 per night.

4. Gregory Creek Inn

When you need to escape the craziness of the city, there's always Gregory Creek Inn in Liberty Twp. to offer a quiet, relaxing break.

The bed and breakfast offers patrons a spacious suite with the normal amenities, along with Gregory Creek behind the inn to relax on a rocking chair or swing.

The inn also does barn rentals for weddings and events as part of Niederman Family Farm.

5. Hearthstone Inn and Suites

This country inn hotel in Cedarville advertises itself as a getaway from life for whatever you need, whether it’s university visiting, romantic getaways or weekend with your best friends.

Hearthstone's website offers a variety of suggestions for things to do in the area and even offers a reduced rate for those visiting colleges.

According to its website, prices change depending on occupancy, but one can expect to pay $130 per night in a double queen or king room and $185 for a deluxe Jacuzzi king suite.

7. Effie’s Place Bed and Breakfast

This restored Victorian villa was built in 1871 and includes three rooms and an extravagant common area for guests.

Located in Wilmington, Effie's Place is an easy weekend getaway for romance or friends getting together.

Rates vary from $80 to $135 per night depending on the room.

Located next to the Contemporary Art Center in Cincinnati is the 156-room multi-venue hotel and art museum that is open to the public 24/7, 365 days/year.

The hotel features 10 styles of rooms from deluxe kings to two bedroom corner suites.

21c includes its own seasonal terrace bar, restaurant and spa and will host private events.

Rates start at $279 for a deluxe king.

9. Great Stone Castle

A resort, bed and breakfast, lodge and spa are all hosted within a multi-floor mansion in Sidney.

The first floor is dedicated to the ballroom, banquet and turret rooms for events, while the second floor holds the bed and breakfast suites and a lower level spa.

The Great Stone Castle hosts a separate lodge for those that don't wish to stay in the mansion itself.
