The City of Dayton has announced that it will keep all city owned golf courses closed until further notice in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic.

On March 30, the Ohio Department of Health reversed itself and ruled that golf courses could remain open as an outdoor recreation activity, as long as employees followed social distancing and disinfecting procedures.

Coronavirus: Complete coverage

Some courses reopened then. Dayton chose not to open the courses — Madden, Community and Kittyhawk.

However, this week Gov. Mike DeWine unveiled his Responsible Restart Ohio Plan, which outlines the protocols needed to operate safely.

After evaluation, city officials decided again the golf centers do not have the resources to fully meet those safe standards needed to reduce the spread of the coronavirus by actively monitoring/managing social distancing mandates.

The city also noted that disinfectant cleaning supplies have been prioritized for front-line city operations.

The Division of Golf will continue to evaluate the courses as resources become available and as mandates are adjusted.
