To successfully stockpile items, you need to follow a few tricks of the trade. Here are a few words of advice to help you save time, space and money.
Don’t buy items that will spoil quickly, such as bread.
Don’t assume that nonperishable items will never go bad. Even these items have an expiration date.
Don’t buy things you don’t like, even if it is cheap. Unless you are going to use it or donate it to a food bank, it will for sure take up space on your shelves and eventually spoil.
Don’t neglect nutrition. Just because an item is cheap doesn’t mean it is good for you.
Don’t pay full price. The idea of a stockpile is to buy items for dirt cheap. Don’t feel like you need to fill up your entire stockpile in one week by buying everything at full price.
Be practical. Don’t buy more than you can store.
It is OK to use your stockpile. If times are tough, feel free to use the foods on your stockpile to get by. That is what it is there for.
