Covington Eagles Enter PleasTo Gambling Charges

Through a trustee, the organization of the Fraternal Order of Eagles in Covington entered pleas of no contest to two counts each of operating a gambling house and gambling in court.

The organization also agreed to the forfeiture of $600,000 in gambling receipts and could get fined $500 on each of the four counts. The pleas were the result of a raid in June 2003 at Eagles’ Broadway Street location by state liquor agents.

Authorities said 80 percent of the fine will go to the Ohio Department of Public Safety, which initiated the investigation, and the remaining 20 percent will go to the Miami County Prosecutor’s Office.

A new slate of trustees now operates the Eagles since the raid.
