Kovacs is charged with producing, distributing, receiving, transporting and possessing child pornography, and tampering with a witness or informant.

Newman said in making his decision that he reviewed the charges in the case.
“Those charges are very, very serious,” Newman said. “They are only charges, but they are very serious.”
The next court date in the case wasn’t immediately ordered.
Kovacs retired in August 2018 after 25 years with the Beavercreek Police Department. He worked as a patrol officer, crime prevention specialist and DARE officer with Beavercreek City Schools, according to a Beavercreek police Facebook post announcing his retirement.
During the bond hearing, defense attorney Christian Cavalier called Kovacs wife who assured the judge that the couple and their adult son who lives with them would follow any bond conditions set including monitoring him and disconnecting the internet at the house.
U.S. Assistant Attorney Dwight Keller asked the judge to keep Kovacs locked up, adding that the court’s pretrial services also advised the magistrate to not free Kovacs from the Shelby County Jail.
