Bond set for man accused of Piqua Marathon robbery

A man accused of robbing a Marathon station in Piqua was arraigned Tuesday morning in Miami County Municipal court on a charge of robbery.

A judge set bond at $25,000 cash for James Mumaw III, 25, of Piqua.

Mumaw pleaded not guilty.

Less than 12 hours after a man walked into the Marathon Gas Station at Looney Road and East Ash Street in Piqua, a suspect in the robbery is in custody.

James Mumaw III, 25, of Piqua, is being held in the Miami County Jail on suspicion of robbery, according to Piqua police.

His arrest comes after someone recognized Mumaw on surveillance pictures posted on the Facebook page of WHIO’s Steve Baker.

Police said Mumaw walked into the gas station with his hand in his pocket as if he was armed. He ran away with a undisclosed amount of cash.

EARLIER

Piqua police are investigating a reported armed robbery at the Marathon station on Looney Road Monday morning.

Units were dispatched around 6:45 a.m. to the station at 315 Looney Road on reported an armed man entered the store and demanded cash.

Police said the robber covered his face and had a hand in his pocket as if he had a gun, but he never said he was actually holding a weapon. The man fled on foot with an undetermined amount of cash.

A K9 was requested to the scene, but the track was unsuccessful.

No injuries were reported.
