Boy, 14, charged with murder in Champaign County

The Champaign County Prosecutor today approved charges against a 14-year-old boy who is accused in the Thursday night slaying of a woman.

Donovan A. Nicholas has been charged one count each of aggravated murder and murder in the death of 40-year-old Heidi Fay Taylor.

The incident happened at home in the 4300 block of Valley Pike, Mad River Twp.

Nicholas is scheduled to appear this afternoon in Champaign County Juvenile Court.

He is a student at Graham Middle School. The school district released the statement below:

“A Graham Local Schools middle school student was allegedly involved in a tragic domestic situation. Our thoughts and prayers continue to be with the family and community and we will continue to support them in any way we can in the coming days.

As this is an ongoing incident and unrelated to the operations of our school campus, we will not be able to offer any details at this time. We will offer any support necessary for students and staff at our schools. Our main focus will continue to be on meeting the educational needs of all students and maintaining normalcy.

Our District Crisis Team will be made available immediately, and over the coming school days, to meet the needs of students and staff should any arise.”
