Police are asking for the public’s help to identify a man who attempted to steal Milwaukee tools Tuesday from a Home Depot store, and a second man who rode to the store with him.

The men arrived in the parking lot around 12:30 p.m.

Inside the store, one of the men was caught after he placed a number of tools in a shopping cart and attempted to leave without paying, according to a release from Miamisburg police.

Store security confronted the man, and without the cart or tools he ran to a white older model Lincoln with a sunroof and no license plates, then fled in an unknown direction, police said.

The man was described as heavy-set with a beard wearing a blue hooded zip-up sweatshirt, blue jeans and a brown toboggan. Store security told police that the man, with the same vehicle, was believed to be involved with similar thefts in the Beavercreek area.

Surveillance video showed that the Lincoln also had a passenger who entered the store when the attempted theft suspect did.

Anyone who is able to identify either man is surged to contact Miamisburg detective Sgt. Jeff S. Muncy at 937-847-6612.
