Dayton man indicted in fatal shooting of ex-girlfriend

John Bryan Bailey also accused of shooting a man who is in critical condition.

UPDATE @ 4:09 p.m. (April 20):

A Montgomery County grand jury has indicted John B. Bailey, 22, of Dayton, in connection to the shooting death of Tayisha Gibson and injury of another person.

Bailey has been indicted on two counts of murder; four counts of felonious assault; and one count having weapons while under disability, according to Prosecutor Mat Heck, Jr.

Gibson was reportedly Bailey’s ex-girlfriend. She was shot April 10 inside a Trotwood apartment.

Bailey will be arraigned April 26. He remains in Montgomery County Jail on $500,000 bond.

UPDATE @ 11:30 p.m. (April 11):

Police arrested a man they say shot and killed his ex-girlfriend early Sunday in Trotwood.

Tayisha Gibson, 24, was shot several times in an upstairs bedroom at an apartment on Biddison Avenue. A man also was shot several times; his name has not been released but he remains in critical but stable condition at Miami Valley Hospital.

John Bryan Bailey, 22, is being held on $500,000 bond in the Miami Valley Jail on suspicion of murder, felonious assault and for having weapons under disability, online jail records show. He was convicted of a weapons charge last fall, but was out of prison pending an appeal.

An acquaintance of Bailey said he’s surprised Baily is suspect, calling him an “everyday worker.”

“I don’t know what made him take off like that,” said James Goodson.

A woman was shot to death and a man was critically injured during an altercation police described as a “domestic violence incident.”

Tayisha Gibson, 24, was found dead in an upstairs bedroom at a home in the 4800 block of Biddison Avenue. Police said Gibson had been shot multiple times.

Another man, who police have not identified, was found bleeding from apparent gunshot wounds and was taken to Miami Valley Hospital, where he remains in critical condition.

Police arrested Gibson’s ex-boyfriend, John Bryan Bailey, 22, who was booked into the Montgomery County Jail Sunday morning on a pending murder charge. He now is being held on $500,000 bond on two additional charges: felonious assault and having weapons while under disability for a prior felony conviction, online jail records show.

A woman who died in a homicide in Trotwood on Sunday has been identified as Tayisha Gibson, 24, of Trotwood.

INITIAL REPORT:

A 22-year-old man is behind bars on suspicion of murder following an early Sunday shooting.

Police and medics were called around 3:30 a.m. to the 4800 block of Biddison Avenue.

John Bryan Bailey was arrested at the scene Sunday morning, and was later booked into the Montgomery County Jail. He is being held without bond and is awaiting formal charges on the murder count, online jail records show.

We were out at the scene early Sunday morning and have been working to learn more information from Trotwood police officials about the case.

The Montgomery County Coroner’s Office Sunday night confirmed a woman died of homicide, but wouldn’t release any further information pending notification of family.
