Dayton police turn retirement party into social distancing parade

Dayton police honored a major in the department who worked in the city for two decades.

Dayton Police Department Chief of Staff Maj. Wendy Stiver retired Tuesday after working here for 20 years.

People in cars decorated with signs drove by and waved to Stiver while wishing her luck as she takes on a new role at the Charleston Police Department in South Carolina.

Stiver worked her way up to one of the most high-profile positions in the Dayton department, major of the Central Patrol Operations Division, which includes downtown and the Oregon District, her own neighborhood. She then became chief of staff.
