Deputies say deaths likely murder-suicide

Police ID victims as Paul Kaiser and Andrew Powell.

LEWISBURG — Deputies in Preble County said two people are dead following an apparent murder-suicide in Lewisburg Wednesday night.

Investigators said there was evidence of a violent confrontation at 202 S. Commerce St., where police responded after calls of a break-in.

Paul B. Kaiser, 49, of Lewisburg, was found unresponsive there and was declared dead. He did not live at the home.

During the investigation, witnesses identified a man who fled the scene as 26-year-old Andrew Powell. Deputies dispatched a crew to his home in the 3000 block of Sonora Road and found him dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Deputies believe Powell may be responsible for Kaiser’s death.

“Investigators believe that the victim was involved in a physical altercation with a known subject inside the (South Commerce Street) residence,” said a release from the Preble County Sheriff’s Office. “Neither the victim nor the suspect live at the residence.”

Both bodies were removed to the Montgomery County Coroner’s Office in Dayton, where autopsies were performed Thursday.

The case remains under investigation as a homicide by the Preble County Sheriff’s Office and the Lewisburg Police Department.
