DeWine: Stanton Optical violated consumer laws

Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine on Tuesday filed a lawsuit against two Florida companies that operate Stanton Optical, charging the businesses with multiple violations of Ohio's consumer laws.

Stanton Optical, operated by Value Vision LLC and Macarius, Max & Daniel LLC of Palm Springs, Fla., has stores in Beavercreek and Miamisburg.

Stanton Optical sells eyeglasses, contact lenses, accessories and eye exams that are performed by third-party optometrists.

Consumer complaints filed with DeWine's office, many coming from the Miami Valley, indicate some waited months to receive eyewear after payment, received incorrect prescriptions or did not receive refunds they were owed.

DeWine characterized the company's practices as "classic bait-and-switch" activity.

The lawsuit seeks to stop the companies from further violations and to obtain full restitution for consumers, civil penalties and other costs.

Stanton Optical officials did not respond to a request for comment.
