A dog pulled from a Dayton home that may have been set on fire intentionally early Wednesday morning died at the scene.

The dog was unconscious, but alive when firefighters removed it from the home, located at 1309 Danner Ave., and unsuccessfully attempted to resuscitate it. The owner was not home at the time of the fire, firefighters said.

It was firefighters’ second trip to the home in four hours, and they suspect arson.

The suspected arsonist initially attempted to set the house on fire by throwing flammable objects through the kitchen window just before 1 a.m. Wednesday, fire officials said. However, the fire was put out with a fire extinguisher.

The home owner left the home at that time, but did not take the dog, firefighters said.

Just before 5 a.m. the house was set on fire again when a flammable object was thrown in the the living room, fire officials said, adding that there are not suspects at this time.

There is no other information at this time. But we have a photographer at the scene, and we’ll bring you the latest information as soon as it’s available.
