Eaton woman spends weekends in jail after conviction in Dayton pedestrian hit-and-run crash

An Eaton woman convicted in a March hit-and-run crash that killed a pedestrian in Dayton is serving her sentence on weekends.

Stephanie Dawn Higgins, 43, arrived at 6 p.m. Friday at the Montgomery County Jail, 330 W. Second St., in Dayton, where she will remain until 6 a.m. Sunday. This is the sixth weekend of her 60-weekend sentence.

She was convicted in June of leaving the scene of an accident March 1 in the 700 block of South Smithville Road. She struck 20-year-old Logan Grimes Jr. as he was crossing the street, and then fled. Grimes succumbed to his injuries at Miami Valley Hospital.

Higgins also was sentenced to five years of community control and her driver’s license was suspended for three years, according to Montgomery County Common Pleas Court documents.
