Family of teen shot to death says he was ‘a good kid’

Henderson and Javier Harrison, both 17, were shot in a detached garage on Wednesday night. The homeowner said he heard voices outside and encountered three young men in his garage when he went out to see what was going on.

Dayton Police Chief Richard Biehl said there was “drug activity” going on at the time in the garage.

Derren, Devin’s twin brother, said his brother wasn’t the type of person to carry a weapon and that if the homeowner had asked the boys to leave they would have.

“For the people that think they know my brother, they don’t really know my brother,” Derren said. “He was a good kid.”

Now, Derren must live without his twin brother.

“It ain’t going to be the same,” Derren said. “He used to always wake me up, I used to always hear his voice. That’s how I used to wake up for school on time. Waking up and not seeing him at all just don’t feel right.”

Devin’s older sister, Davonna, said he hopes investigators “go for what’s right” regarding the resident who shot the teens.

“There was other ways that he could have handled this. He wasn’t threatening him. He wasn’t,” Davonna said.

Devin loved video games, his siblings said. He had been attending Mound Street Academy, which is not part of the Dayton Public School system.
