Filthy house lands parents in jail

Five children removed from Huber Heights home

A mother and father are being held and their children are in the care of county services after Huber Heights police discovered the family living in filthy conditions.

Gary Rodgers, 48, and his wife, Melissa Alexander Rodgers, 39, were arrested Tuesday night and were booked into the Montgomery County Jail on suspicion of domestic violence and child endangering.

Police said officers were called to their Cruxton Drive home initially on a domestic violence situation.

The situation apparently was not resolved during the first visit; later that night one of the couple’s six children, an adult, called police back to the home.

The second time, the officers saw the unkempt conditions inside the home and determined it was not suitable for the younger children.

This isn’t the first time the Rodgers have been in the news.

In 2009, Gary Rodgers got in trouble for abandoning the children and he told sheriff’s deputies his wife had left days prior and hadn’t returned.

Montgomery County Children Services says there’s an open case regarding the children, who were placed in their custody.

Gary Rodgers is being held in lieu of $25,000 bail, and Melisaa Rodgers is being held in lieu of posting 10 perent of a $5,000 bail. Both are scheduled to appear in court Jan. 6, online jail records show.
